If the Liberals deregulate shop trading hours; it will benefit big interstate chains like Coles and Woolies, at the expense of small SA family owned businesses.
Deregulation will force small SA shops to stay open longer and lose market share to Coles and Woolworths.
If the big interstate chain stores keep growing, they will kill off competition …and that will lead to higher prices paid by SA shoppers.
If independent retailers are pushed out of the market place – who will stock SA brands and produce? Deregulation will make life hard for growers and greengrocers.
Plus the big chains often stock fruit and vegetables and products from interstate.
Driving small independent retailers out of business will also hurt SA farmers and producers because they sell SA produce.
